In January 1929, Father Carse took the first steps toward establishing this school. On January 26, 1929, he purchased land from Mary and Joseph Petraoicz, plot number 5 (part of plot 56 of the original town of Charleston, as surveyed on May 8, 1837). Then, on July 2, 1929, after acquiring plot number 6 from Bernard Snelting, he was able to begin the actual construction of his lifelong dream: a Catholic school in Saint Charles!

The school opened on the Feast of the Epiphany, January 6, 1930, with a Mass celebrated in honor of the Holy Spirit, and on the same day classes were held for the first time in the new parish school. There were 187 students enrolled. The school was staffed by the Adrian Dominican Sisters. The first Dominican sisters to teach at St. Patrick’s were Sister Felicitas, principal; Sister Jean Catherine; Sister Martin Marie; Sister Ann; and Sister Margaret Edward.

The enrollment included not only students from St. Charles and the surrounding area but also from Batavia, Elburn, Geneva, and West Chicago. Father Carse purchased the property for the convent from Frank Siliunas on November 21, 1929, and the convent was completed and ready for the sisters to move in on January 13, 1930.

The new parish school was solemnly dedicated by Bishop Edward F. Hoban on Sunday, May 11, 1930. It is interesting to note that the master of ceremonies assisting Bishop Hoban during the dedication was Father Walter J. Ryan, the future pastor of St. Patrick’s Parish who would evIn januari 1929 zette pater Carse de eerste stappen voor de oprichting van deze school. De eerste zusters die hier lesgaven waren zuster Felicitas (directeur), zuster Jean Catherine, zuster Martin Marie, zuster Ann en zuster Margaret Edward.

De leerlingen kwamen niet alleen uit St. Charles en omgeving, maar ook uit Batavia, Elburn, Genève en West Chicago. Pater Carse kocht op 21 november 1929 het pand voor het klooster van Frank Siliunas, dat op 13 januari 1930 gereed was voor bewoning door de zusters.

Op zondag 11 mei 1930 werd de nieuwe parochieschool plechtig ingewijd door bisschop Edward F. Hoban. De ceremoniemeester die hem bijstond, was pater Walter J. Ryan, die later pastoor van St. Patrick’s zou worden en verantwoordelijk zou zijn voor de bouw van een uitbreiding aan de school.
